Making Waves: The Art of Cinematic Sound DVD Release

From the first words uttered in pioneering film The Jazz Singer - "Wait a minute, wait a minute I tell yer, you ain't seen nothing yet!" - to the early sound years of cinema including All Quiet on the Western Front, King Kong and Singing In The Rain, to groundbreaking blockbusters such as Apocalypse Now, Star Wars, Top Gun and Jurassic Park, sound and sound design are an integral part of films and film history. Sound design makes a film, but, if done properly, most viewers won't even realise how a film's narrative and themes are being advanced. Now a new feature documentary puts sound in the spotlight and makes a noise about the sound effects that set the heart racing.

Making Waves: The Art of Cinematic Sound reveals the hidden power of sound in cinema and is set to arrive in UK cinemas courtesy of Dogwoof. Through film clips, interviews and verite footage, the film captures the history, impact and creative process of this often overlooked art form, through the insights and stories of film legends including George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, David Lynch, Barbra Streisand, Ang Lee, Christopher Nolan, Sofia Coppola and Ryan Coogler and their sound design collaborators.

Coppola and Lucas have both declared that "sound is 50 per cent of the movie" with Spielberg saying "our ears lead our eyes to where the story lives." In Making Waves, we see and hear from the key players of sound design - including multi-Oscar winners Walter Murch (Apocalypse Now), Ben Burtt (Star Wars) and Gary Rydstrom (Saving Private Ryan) - who, in pursuing their art and desire to push the medium, are the very people who will go down in the history of cinema for developing sound into the immersive storytelling force it is today.

Lend us you ears and open your eyes for an epic journey into sound and its impact on our film experience and our lives.

But with her career change and Martin under review from the General Medical Council following complaints from his patients, is now the right time?

Balance, Not Symmetry DVD & digital release

Using a groundbreaking concept, Biffy Clyro frontman Simon Neil worked alongside director Jamie Adams to create Balance, Not Symmetry, a film and album of the same name, using both as inspiration for each other to create two wonderful works of art.

Following its premiere at Edinburgh International Film Festival, the film is set for its release on DVD and digital thanks to Pinpoint Films via Sparky Pictures, with rising Hollywood stars Laura Harrier (BlacKkKlansman, Spider-Man: Homecoming) and Bria Vinaite (The Florida Project, The OA) taking the leads.

When he announced the project, Neil said: "The record will influence the film and then feed back to the music. It's an unusual way to make a record, and that's why I'm buzzing about it - it's a different way to feel inspired."

Harrier plays Caitlin, an American student who must return to her studies at the Glasgow School of Art following the death her father. Leaving behind a grieving mother (Kate Dickie - The VVitch, Prometheus) and supported by her fun-loving flatmate Hannah (Vinaite), Caitlin struggles to navigate grief and inspiration. With an end of year art project failing to come together, budding romance in the air, and a growing resentment towards her best friend, will Caitlin be able to find her voice through her art? The words of Scotland's best loved rock band, ''reinvigorated and exploring thrilling new territory'' ensure that ''there is magic here, unquestionable magic'' (NME).
