Acorn TV September 2021 Highlights

6 September: JACK IRISH SERIES 1 AND SERIES 2

Emmy Award-winning, Hollywood star Guy Pearce (Memento, Mildred Pierce) takes the lead as ex-lawyer turned PI Jack Irish in this acclaimed Australian noir which arrives in the UK with the full six-part complete first series.

When Jack is enlisted to find missing person Wayne Dilthey, he finds himself accused of his murder, but has he been framed? Then an alibi turns up out of the blue - a women also searching for someone, her sister. Can Jack find the real culprit and his beloved car that's been 'borrowed' too? Also stars Marta Dusseldorp (A Place to Call Home, Janet King) and Aaron Pederson (Mystery Road, The Circuit). Series Two sees Jack and his partner in crime Cam Delray (Aaron Pedersen) taken on to investigate the suspicious death of a foreign student who is fatally hit by a bus. Could a stalker be responsible?

13 September: BALTHAZAR SERIES 3

Our favourite French forensic pathologist, the charming and eccentric Raphael Balthazar (Tomer Sisley, Messiah), returns for series three of the hit crime thriller Balthazar. Balthazar can make the dead speak like no-one else to solve Paris' most disturbing crimes. But there's one case that continues to haunt him - the murder of his wife over 13 years ago. Working alongside no-nonsense police commander Helene Bach (Helene de Fougerolles, Le Secret d'Elise, VA Savoir), they work together to try and solve the most complex of crimes.

This series sees Balthazar denounce his work and vow to never touch a corpse again following a major trauma, but Helene is closing in on his wife's killer - can he overcome his fear and help her solve the case once and for all?

27 September: MY LIFE IS MURDER SERIES 2

Award-winning actress Lucy Lawless (Xena: Warrior Princess, Parks and Recreation) returns as Alexa Crowe, a retired cop turned intrepid private investigator in this entertaining Australian mystery series. The second series makes its UK premiere and features a stellar line-up of guests including screen legend William Shatner (Star Trek), Strictly's Bill Bailey (Black Books) and Xena co-star Renee O'Connor (Ark).

Alexa finds herself back in her home country of New Zealand for the first time in years and can't say no when asked to look into a bizarre unsolved murder. Joined again by her partner-in-crime-solving, Madison Feliciano (Ebony Vagulans) as well as series newcomers, the charismatic detective Harry (Rawiri Jobe) and cafe owner Reuben (Joe Naufahu, Game of Thrones), she quickly finds herself investigating other murder mysteries in surprisingly glamorous worlds filled with intriguing characters hiding dangerous and deadly secrets.
