Acorn TV June 2021 Highlights

7 June: FANNY HILL

John Cleland's notorious erotic novel Fanny Hill, about a young Lancashire woman who endeavours to attain respectability after falling into a life of ill repute in 18th-century London, is adapted for the small screen by Andrew Davies (Bridget Jones' Diary, Pride and Prejudice) in this critically acclaimed and undoubtably saucy miniseries. Rebecca Knight (Wuthering Heights, Agatha Raisin) plays the bawdy eponymous lead, with a mischievous glint in her eye and plenty of knowing winks, as we follow her journey from wholesome waif to worldly woman. The drama features an impressive cast including Alison Steadman (Gavin & Stacey, Orphan Black), Hugo Speer (Marcella, London Kills) and Samantha Bond (Downton Abbey, Outnumbered).

21 June: WHITSTABLE PEARL COMPLETE SERIES BOXSET

We return to the stunning Kent coast for more gripping mysteries in this gem of a series, based on acclaimed author Julie Wassmer's (EastEnders) much loved novels The Whitstable Pearl Mystery and Disappearance at Oare.

Kerry Godliman (After Life, Save Me) stars as Pearl Nolan, a restaurateur turned detective, who teams up with new 'down-from-London' detective DCI Mike McGuire (Howard Charles, The Musketeers, Liar), to solve crimes in the dark underbelly of this seemingly charming seaside town.

The last three instalments of series one see Pearl juggling work and family life around the festive season, and a new investigation when a mystery note lands on her plate; getting to the bottom of a boating 'accident' where a mother and daughter almost die and a gruesome discovery amongst the oyster beds that forces Pearl to face her past and ask questions surrounding her father's disappearance at sea. Frances Barber (Silk, Mr Holmes) also stars.

21 June: THE SOMMERDAHL MURDERS SERIES 1&2

Hit Scandi-noir police drama The Sommerdahl Murders based on the bestselling Dan Sommerdahl books from Anna Grue, one of Scandinavia's most successful crime fiction writers, aired in Denmark to great acclaim and following the UK premiere of Series one on Acorn TV, series two makes its UK premiere and the complete box set is now available.

This enthralling mystery series set on the stunning Danish coast follows DCI Dan Sommerdahl (Peter Mygind - The Kingdom, Last Christmas), his best friend, Detective Flemming Torp (Andre Babikian - Those Who Kill, The Protectors), and his wife, Marianne (Laura Drasbaek - Park Road, Grow), a criminal technician. But Dan's years of devotion to the job have hurt his marriage, and with Marianne wanting a divorce, Dan discovers his rival for her affections is none other than his best friend. And they all must still work together to solve crimes.

28 June: CANDICE RENOIR SERIES 1&2
