The South Westerlies on Acorn TV

This charming Acorn TV Original series gets its Worldwide Premiere on Monday, November 9 exclusively on Acorn TV in the UK, Canada, U.S., Australia, and New Zealand with all six episodes and follows environmental consultant and single mother Kate Ryan (Orla Brady), who must return to her hometown, undercover, in order to quell opposition to her company's offshore wind farm...but there's a reason she hasn't been back in 15 years. Will her complicated personal history get in the way of the prized promotion she is working towards?

A delightful, bingeworthy, six-part drama THE SOUTH WESTERLIES features an impressive ensemble of acclaimed actors including Orla Brady, Patrick Bergin, Eileen Walsh (Catastrophe, Patrick Melrose), Steve Wall (Raised by Wolves, The Witcher), Ger Ryan (Little Dog, Rialto), and a guest role from Sorcha Cusack (A Discovery of Witches, Father Brown) as Kate's mother, Goldie.

Kate is on the verge of a lucrative promotion at Noreg Oil and a move to their HQ in Oslo...until her employer adds a last minute caveat - a final assignment in Ireland for their company's new wind-power subsidiary, NorskVentus. Despite getting planning permission for their wind farm offshore from the West Cork town of Carrigeen, ongoing local protests are creating a PR nightmare. Kate must return to her hometown under the cover of a family holiday, so she can smooth over any objections to the wind farm before the appeals deadline.

When Kate arrives with teenage son Conor (Sam Barrett, The Happy Prince), she faces an eco-battle as she quickly discovers that the anti-wind farm lobby is much stronger than she was led to believe. Going up against Patrick Bergin who plays 'Big Mike' Kelleher, the town's local councillor, it's not just the spectacular scenery that's under pressure - Kate's personal history in the town adds yet more stress to her situation. As tensions rise for Kate both personally and professionally, she must rally her strength to face the changing tides.
