12 Oct: NEWTON'S LAW

This Australian drama sees Claudia Karvan (True History of the Kelly Gang, Jack Irish) star as the eponymous Josephine Newton, a local solicitor, who, when her practice is burned down by a disgruntled client, decides to don her wig and barrister's robe once again and resume her briefly glorious career at the Bar. This 'Upstairs, Downstairs' of legal dramas sees Josephine juggling the high-powered barrister's world of Knox Chambers and the haphazard legal tangles of her former solicitor's office.

19 Oct: ONE LANE BRIDGE

This thrilling New Zealand noir sees ambitious young Maori detective, Ariki Davis (Dominic Ona-Ariki) who arrives in Queenstown with big dreams investigate the death of local legend Grub Ryder who is found dead at the bottom of the infamous One Lane Bridge. As he becomes embroiled in the major investigation, Ariki inadvertently unlocks a supernatural ability that threatens to endanger the case, his career, and his life.

19 OCT: BACK TO LIFE

The hugely talented Daisy Haggard (Breeders) writes and directs this truly original, brilliant comedy drama. After 18 years away, Miri Matteson returns to her childhood home to live with her parents (Geraldine James and Richard Durden) in the coastal town she grew up in, but no longer recognises. As she struggles into this new world of adult life, can she ever escape the shadow of her past?

26 Oct: EAST OF EVERYTHING

After the death of their mother, brothers Art (Richard Roxburgh) and Vance Watkins (Tom Long) return to the neglected holiday resort Broken Bay, in the idyllic most eastern-point of Australia, where they grew up. Their hope is to re-open the doors of 'Far Out East' and become a haven for travellers, adventurers and escapees. But when their estranged father Gerry Watkins (Nick Tate) unexpectedly turns up to stake his claim, will their plans be ruined?

26 Oct: FINGERSMITH

Two young women's lives collide in Victorian England...with terrifying consequences. Plucky orphan Sue Trinder (Sally Hawkins), raised in a den of petty thieves or 'fingersmiths', agrees to help a young con man (Rupert Evans), defraud wealthy heiress Maud Lilly (Elaine Cassidy). As Sue gets to know Maud, a strong bond soon begins to form, but as their pasts catch up with them they start to realise their lives are built on lies...who can they really trust?
