Groundbreaking classic 'The Boys In The Band' arrives on Blu-ray 17 December

Groundbreaking queer cinema classic The Boys In The Band was one of director William Friedkin's earliest works, and a hugely controversial film on its original 1970 release, dividing the gay community in the US and beyond. Now, years after it became notable not just for featuring an all-gay cast but as being the first mainstream movie to use the C word, making its UK Blu-ray debut courtesy of Second Sight.

Based on the seminal Broadway hit of the same name, playwright Mart Crowley adapted his own play for the big screen, creating a script full of acerbic speeches and cutting one liners for his cast of unforgettable characters. The original stage cast including Kenneth Nelson, Peter White and Leonard Frey all starred in the film, one that Friedkin rates as 'one of the few films I've made that I can still watch".

Famed for its caustic wit, savage putdowns and many expletives, the film follows a group of gay men celebrating one of their friend's birthdays, amid much drunken backbiting and, as the drink flows, the evening descends even further...

'The Boys in the Band has gone through backlashes and re-evaluations, but its truthfulness remains, not as a coming-out drama but as a keyhole into the lives of already-confident outsiders'

Time Out

Nature wreaks its revenge in Long Weekend - on Blu-ray 5 November

Nature wreaks its revenge when a couple's careless behaviour causes havoc in the Australian wild, in the Long Weekend. This Ozploitation classic from director Colin Eggleston (Innocent Prey), heads to Blu-ray for the first time in the UK with an extras-laden package courtesy of Second Sight on 5 November 2018.

Peter (John Hargreaves - Country Life) and Marcia's (Briony Behets - Prisoner Cell Block H), relationship is on the rocks, so they head to the wilderness for an away from it all, make or break long weekend. But in their wake, they leave a trail of destruction - animals run over and tormented, their dog uncared for at home and fires started by their carelessness. They destroy both the countryside around them and any animal or creature that crosses their path...

So Mother Nature strikes back as the creatures and weather take vengeance against the thoughtless, unpleasant pair.

'Colin Eggleston's hybrid horror and relationship drama sets man against nature in a kind of David Attenborough special gone heinously wrong. A masterpiece in minimalist horror'
