They Call it Acid

The year is 1988. Margaret Thatcher is still in power. Punk is a distant memory. Clubs are either full of beer boys, soul boys or posers. Club culture as we know it, has yet to be invented and Britain's youth are bored.

And then, by luck as much as design, a fortuitous trip to Ibiza, a batch of Euro-pop records, a brand new musical sound and a new drug that had hitherto been known only to a select few all fused together to create Acid House.

Acid House. The craze that had tens of thousands of teenagers around the country feeling ecstatic and left the authorities and powers that be bewildered and frightened had arrived.

The story of the last genuine youth culture movement seen in this country, one that spawned a generation of ravers and is still reverberating around the world, is told in They Call It Acid, the true story of acid house and the birth of rave culture, told by the people who were there. In the late-eighties Gordon Mason was a part time DJ and full time film editor and by the age of 21, during his formative years, he was naturally drawn towards this life-changing new scene, attending some of the first ever acid house parties. With the occasional VIP pass from promoters he was in a prime position, with his filmmaking experience, and a borrowed from work camera, to capture the burgeoning scene from the inside, long before the media became aware of it. A decade later, with years of filmmaking experience under his belt, he embarked on a journey to create the definitive documentary of this important, era defining movement. Taking some 10 years to make, this masterpiece is a labour of love, and totally self-funded. But now, although the film is finished, he needs the public's help to bring it to the masses.

In a unique crowd-funding project that launches on Indiegogo (https://www.indiegogo.com) on 1 September 2015 and runs for 60 days, 8000 units of the film will be pre-sold on DVD for 15 with the opportunity to invest more for exclusive offers.
