World War II: The British Movietone Newsreel Years

Founded in 1929, British Movietone was the first sound newsreel service in Britain, shooting on 35 mm film and keeping the country up to date with current affairs before the age of television. To celebrate the 70th Anniversary of the end of World War II, OEG Classic Movies is delighted to announce the first ever DVD release of World War II - The British Movietone Newsreel Years Collector's Edition a major collection of war reports from 1939 - 1945. Hungry for news during World War II, people flocked to cinemas to watch news reports. Despite a shortage in film supplies, British Movietone News covered the war from the home front to overseas: from the Western Front and Occupied Paris to Africa, the Middle East and the Pacific, and featured footage of Winston Churchill, Adolf Hitler, Montgomery, Mussolini, George Formby, Gracie Fields, and many others who affected the outcome of this Second World War. Covering over sixteen hours of World War II footage, much of it unseen since the war, World War II - The British Movietone Newsreel Years Collector's Edition is a fascinating and insightful look back at this major historical event. Many of these news reels have been newly remastered and are now brought together as a stunning special edition six-disc box set; which is a testament of British spirit and humour, and will be released on 7 September 2015.

The Hourglass Sanatorium

Wojciech Has' cinematic universe of byzantine sets, hallucinatory images and galleries of grotesque characters is brought to life in his pychadelic masterpiece The Hourglass Sanatorium. Adapted from a collection of short stories by Polish-Jewish writer Bruno Schulz, and funded by the Polish Arts Council, this beautifully re-mastered edition dispenses with traditional narrative, fashioning an audiovisual mosaic that blurs the line between reality and fantasy. Set in the pre-World War II era, a young man named Joseph (Jan Nowicki - Tulips, Spirala) visits a strange dilapidated Sanatorium to see his dying father Jakob (Tadeusz Konrat - Adventure in Marienstadt, Zawilosci Uczuc). Upon arrival he finds a hospital crumbling into ruin, where time is slowed down in order to maintain his father's life signs. Joseph must venture through the many rooms of the sanatorium, each filled with sinsiter worlds conjured from his memories, dreams and nightmares.
